“Mechanistic Insights in the Thermo-Oxidative Degradation of Polyethylene Waste to Di-Carboxylic Acids”

Tom Smak is a PhD candidate in the Inorganic Chemistry and Catalysis group at Utrecht University. The aim of his research is to develop a novel route to convert polyethylene waste to high value di-carboxylic acids using molecular oxygen as a green oxidant. In his work he focusses on the mechanistic understanding of the reaction using different spectroscopical methods, such that catalyst design can be improved.
